  1. Kenpaw

    Welcome Scott

Welcome! Hope you enjoy this site as much as I do.
  2. I was able to plant corn today. It was just barely dry enough, but with rain predicted for the next 5 days, it was now or wait a long time. I also planted a row of blue lake pole beans. It’s a little early for green beans but I can always replant if I have to. I’m tired tonight but it sure felt good to work in the dirt again!
  3. Was finally able to till my garden yesterday. It was just barely dry enough to till. If it doesn’t rain too much this weekend I hope to get the ground worked up good and then plant our corn. I was able to transplant tomatoes and peppers to larger pots earlier this week. It’s still way too early to put those in the ground but I’m so thankful it it getting closer every day!!!!
  4. Ccat, thanks for the tutorial on starting tomatoes from seed. In the past I havent had much success at all. I usually just ended up buying plants and stuck them in the ground. But, I thought I’d give starting from seed another try this year. I followed your plan and had great success! I had 57 cells out of 60 germinate! By far my best result. I’ve got them out in the shop under a light and will probably transplant to bigger containers by the end of the week. Thanks again for the recommendation on mixing warm water with the potting mix. It made the difference for me!
  5. Thanks for the advice. I’m going to give it a try!
  6. Beautiful!! Those are nice healthy looking plants!
  7. Ccat— how deep do your tomato seeds end up being in the seed cells? I don’t seem to have much success planting tomato seed and end up buying my plants. I am going to give it another try here in a few days.
  8. I don’t know how well it would work in your situation, but we have a hunting cabin that once had a mouse problem. We put peppermint extract on cotton balls (aluminum foil underneath to protect the floor) and stuck in each corner of every room and it drove them away. Been using this for several years now. It works great for us.
  9. We discovered a dusting of snow here in Arkansas this morning when we got up. That and a COLD North wind made it a day to stay inside. Needless to say I fed the cows and calves in record time this morning!
  10. That was great! I’m going to give that a try real soon! THANKS!!!
  11. Willie, does the LEM jerky gun work well? I have an older “off brand” jerky gun that seems to clog up when I use it. I have often wondered about the LEM brand gun. I am well pleased with LEM products, but have never used the LEM jerky gun. I have a LEM grinder for venison that works very well. I’m also pleased with the LEM backwoods seasoning. Cajun and jalapeño are what my group likes best. Your jerky looked so good I may have to work up a batch too!
  12. That’s a dandy! Congrats!
  13. Man that looks GOOD! I’m going to try my hand at that tomorrow since the weather is supposed to be so nice. My wife picked up a couple of small Boston Butts today. One will go to pulled pork and the smallest one will be chopped fine and put in the freezer. When we have baked beans we put about a half a cup of smoked meat in with the beans. It sure adds a lot of flavor! Great pic Hippie Willie!
  14. I plan to plant kandy corn, blue lake pole green beans, Marconi peppers, bell peppers, jalapeño peppers, burp less cucumbers, Juliet tomatoes; slicing tomatoes of some sort (haven’t decided what to try this year), purple hull peas, zipper cream peas, and of course lots of Clemson spineless okra.
  15. Hello to all. I followed the old site for a couple of years as a guest only. I really enjoyed reading the members posts and learned many things that I was able to use in my own garden. It seems the old website is seldom used now and people are moving to this website. So I decided to take the plunge and join in myself. I look forward to working with everyone here
