What is this...a coyote?

I'm going to vote for Fox. We have a couple  of foxes here and they make that same noise.  I saw them in the road to the barn a few weeks ago and they were fussing at each other just like that.

Our coyotes are a little different and usually run in packs yipping the whole time at what they are chasing . When a jet comes over in the late evening they will howl at it in unison.

Judy, my first thought when I saw the video (just from looking at it..not the sound) was that it was a fox. ...and like you I have never heard a coyote sound like that... just yipping or howling.  I sort of got out voted, because we have had so many coyotes this year. However, I did remind everyone that we have had a few foxes too...caught on video also. Some years ago one was just trotting down the road one day in the afternoon right next to my neighborhood...  Red Fox.

I have ring also. When the video starts, the coyotes are not near the motion detector. Something else set it off. Pause at 4 or 5 seconds and you will see two coyotes. The sounds were not made by them. My money is on a coon making the noise, or could be a fox. I've heard some strange things from coon! In my youth we had a total of 17 pet coons over those years. What ever it was making the noise is also what set the ring video off! Mine rarely gets a picture of what sets it off because the way it has to set doesn't allow it to pick up the motion until  you have already gone out of view.

By golly, it does sound like an angry or scared raccoon....my brother once sent me a video he took of one in his yard he had trapped and was mad as a hornet. ....same sound!

Definitely sounds like a fox and looks like the fox is chasing a coyote or possibly a dog. Couldn't get a good enough freeze frame. I have trapped a good many coyotes and I have never heard one make that sound, BUT I have heard red fox make a sound just like that.
